i have avi files that are dvd quality that run perfectly in vlc....but when i try to play them in vlc on another machine (b&w G3) it runs too slow or barely at all. is there some program that could decrease the size or quality so i could play these high quality files on the G3?

Hi fyzzle and welcome to the forum.
Quicktime Pro allows you to export such files into different formats and quality levels. However, I am not sure how the sound of your movie is coded. Quicktime doesn't like mp3 audio in movie files, iirc. If you are on quicktime non-pro, I would suggest you to upgrade anyhow. It's really worth it.
