Rest of my network only shows up half the time?

I'm having a minor problem with my network.

I've been able to share across my Windows network however sometimes nothing shows up under Network in the finder window and sometimes the domain icon is there.

When the icon is there, I can navigate to my computer and to the share and copy files off just fine but sometimes the icon just isn't there, even though I just used it.

Any ideas?

And is there an equivilent to the F5 Refresh in Windows?

The icon disappearing is a known bug(?). There was a thread on this. If you want, use search to find out more. However, if you close the finder window and open again and wait a time (= F5 Refresh key in Windows ;)), the icon should show up after some time. But why don't you directly connect to the windows network using Command+K (apple+K)?

When I am using Control + K, what kind of server would that allow me to connect to?

I'm just trying to surf through my file shares...

Is there an equivelent to going Start>Run>\\server\share on Macs?

controle + K allows appletalk share and samba. These are the protocols I know about and use. These are the commandos:
smb://compname (linux and windows boxes are supported by this)
afp://compname (appletalk systems)
