Restoring G4's OS

Hi,
I'm having hard time restoring my G4s operating system. I can install os 9.2 but unable to install os X. I'm using the factory defalt CDs.
 
Which G4?
What is the current OS?
Which firmware? Did it ever have Mac OS X installed?
Which version of Mac OS X are you installing? 10.x.x?
What color is the install disc, and what does it say?
How much RAM do you have?
Did that computer ship with the version of Mac OS X you are trying to install?
