Ringtones

Okay so I just got an iPhone and I have some Ringtones I wanna put onto it. When I try to move my Ringtones to my phone, iTunes says that my Ringtones are on my phone, but they do not appear in the Ringtones menu on my phone. Does anyone know why?

I had this problem too with some ringtones, the only way for me to fix it was to use garageband to trim the audio file, then share ringtone with itunes and they showed up and worked fine. This is in iLife 09
