Running System 9 software

I'm about to buy a Power Book with System X. My software collection (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks, Word, etc) are all system nine and versions 2 or 3.

My questions are:
1) are there any system X plug ins that will allow me to run older software, and where can I find them if so>

2) how well will they work on System 9 emulation mode?

3) I have no budget to buy all new software, so any tips on finding free System X software?

John,
As long as your computer has Mac OS 9 installed along with OS X, you should be fine. When you attempt to open Photoshop, Dreamweaver or whatever OS 9 (ie. 'Classic') will automatically start up. Once it's started up it will stay open for you and you can run OS 9 programs fine. From the list of applications that you provided I can say that all of them will work under Classic. Most applications will work just fine from Classic mode. You will probably get the occasional application that will require you to have to restart the computer into Mac OS 9, but this is rare.

Hope this helps :).

John,

I believe you can get a Mac OS 9 disc from Apple if you don't get one with your new machine.

If you get a new Powerbook (2003 or later), it won't boot into OS 9. You'd then have to use the Classic mode under OS X.

BTW, welcome to MacOSX.com!

Doug

Thank you both for your helpful replies. Now I want to get my hands on a new PowerBook with superdrive and 17in monitor!
