Safari and Itunes do not open after software update

Everything was fine until I ran a software update about a week ago for itunes 9.1 safari 3.4 a security update and a java update. I will say that safari could not be properly updated. I read on anopther forum where another person had a similar issue. They said that it may be because of the order of updated apps. You see, the security update ran, then the itunes then safari. This person said the security update may have prohibited Safari from operating successfully and in turn affecting Itunes. What do I do? Im very new to Mac's.

any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm running Mac OS X 10.4
