how can i get safari to promt me a question of where to download my files, instead of autmatic downlad files to "download"-folder?

kinda annoying since i don't want all my files to go into one specific folder.

You can check versiontracker or macupdate, to see if there's an app that does that. Safari doesn't allow that, just one choice.

My biggest complaint about all the Mac browsers, except for Firefox. I don't see why something as simple as that is not an option.

i agree on that, it really is a hazzle. but still it's about the only thing that i don't like about safari so i guess it's ok. but still, i feels fairly simple to just put in an option to choose either 'promt question' or already selected folder.

randman; i tried some different searches on vt, but nothing showed up. do you know of any specific apps wich will do this? safari enhancer? i've tried downloading that one, but it wont work on my system(app opens but it really doesn't - doesn't show up in dock, or anywhere else, but i get the animation in finder when i double-click it) so i haven't had the possibility to see if safari enhancer will give me the possibility to change the prefs..

No, Safari Enhancer won't do it. I've not heard of any app that does it, but then again I prefer all the downloads to the desktop, then I can sort them out myself.

Safari Enhancer is what you need. It will allow you to select where you want your downloads to go.

Remember that to use Safari Enhancer you must have APE installed...

Also, it's probably possible to write a Folder Action Applescript to do what you want. ie, detect a file being saved to some folder somewhere (Safari's download location) and ask you where you want it moved

Safari Enhancer requirements;

Product Requirements:

Mac OS X 10.3 or higher
Safari 1.2
BSD subsystem (included in default OS X install)

Nothing about APE.

I have the latest build of Safari Enhancer and it has NO options for downloads, especially in the first poster's request of having a prompt each time. Maybe Speed Download 2 has that.

Speed Download 2 won't do it either. It's same as Safari, just allowing you to choose which folder to download to. Or the desktop, which is my personal preference.

I don't know where I got it from then. In my Safari Preference window, under the general Tab, I can choose any location for my downloads.

Yes, you can choose the location via the preferences, Safari has it under Preferences > General but you don't get a prompt asking where you would like to download files to, or an option to download certain items to different folders.
