Safari not loading webpages

Just bought a new imac and connected it to my work wireless network through a microsoft proxy server. I can check my work email through the connection but safari does not load any other webpage. I get the message saying it will not load beacause the server has unexpectedly dropped the connection. I've checked all the proxy settings and I'm convinced that they're correct. I have a colleague who is having the same problem and she's using a macbook pro and a wired connection. She still has the same results, work email is fine but no other webpage will load. Any suggestions?

Being convinced that your settings are correct does not mean that they are correct.

Suffice it to say, you should use proxy settings from an official source. They are entered in the Proxy tab of the Network preferences pane. You should have the Web Proxy and the Secure Web Proxy set.
