Anyone know if there is a way to change the download option on Safari. I don't want Safari to download files to a certain location everytime, rather I want Safari to ASK me where to save it everytime I need to download a file. (I hate to say it but similar to Internet Explorer). Firefox does the same thing and I cant stand it!!

PS I love Macs so Im not hating!!

Choose Safari -> preferences -> general. From there, look for the download part and choose a folder

Firefox -> Preferences -> Downloads tab
In Firefox you can have it ask you where to save.

Ahh ok. So there is no way to turn on the "ask me where to save this file when I click to download something" option for safari. Its going to be a specific predetermined location everytime?

You will have to determine where you want the download, and I know of no way to have Safari prompt you, unless some one writes a script.

I'm not aware of any way to do this with Safari. But I'm sure it's possible with Firefox. In fact, I've never found a way to get Firefox to STOP asking me! (At least not consistently.) In Firefox, go to Preferences > Downloads > "Ask me where to save every file". I'm using the Firefox 2.0 alpha, but I'm fairly certain it's available in older versions as well.

Instead of clicking on a link, of a file to download (which will be saved as determined via 'Safari's 'Safari, Preferences...', General toolbar button's 'Save downloaded files to:' popup menu) - do a right button click (<control> click, for those with single button mouse), with the <option> key pressed, on the link. Instead of seeing the 'Download Linked File' menu item - 'Download Linked File As...' will be presented. When selected, a navigation sheet will appear.
