Recently the customize function for the toolbar in Safari 5.0.3 (OS 10.6.5) will not work. This only a problem with one user setup on my iMac. If I login as another user, it works properly. When I select "Customize Toolbar,"the window with icons to select from does not appear, and the toolbar portion of the Safari Window becomes activated for customization (the icons become moveable and cannot be used). There is no way to deselect this so no URL can be typed in to the URL window and none of the control icons will work. If I restart Safari, it works again as normal, but still cannot customize the toolbar. I have deleted the com.apple.safari.plist (located ~library/preferences) file and this does not help. I have copied the com.apple.safari.plist file from another user on the system. This resets the toolbar to appear as the other user has set it up, but it still will not customize.
All plug-ins have been removed and extensions are turned off.
I should also mention, this computer is used the whole family and anyone may have loaded alternative toolbars (Amazon, etc) at some point, but none are loaded now. I own 5 macs and am an expert user. I've never seen this with any of the others.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
