Save Outlook Express 5.0.6 emails

I am using an iMac running OS X 10.4.11. My email is on Outlook Express 5.0.6 (OE 5).

When I open OE 5 the "Classic Environment" (Mac OS 9) is automatically opened first. I think this was to be compatible with my office and with emails on my previous Mac. This is a minor inconvenience and is o.k. with me.

I would like to save some (many) of my emails to another file so I can delete them from my Outlook Express files. There does not appear to be a "save" routine in OE 5.

The methods I have contrived are either r e a l l y s l o w (one at a time) or of little value because the sender and date sent information is lost. Does anyone have a suggestion? Thank you.

Outlook Express is a MacOS 9 application. If you boot MacOS X, then you must run it in the Classic environment or not at all. If the Classic environment is not running already, then it must launch before you can run Outlook Express.

As for saving your emails to another file, that is completely unnecessary. The bundle MacOS X Mail client will import all of your email messages from Outlook Express and a number of other MacOS 9 email clients. Within Mail, select the File/Import Mailboxes... menu item.
