Saving window preferences

I noticed that my Powerbook does not remember the window settings for my 'Macintosh HD' directory. In other words, after I restart my computer, when I double click on 'Macintosh HD', the window always appears in the middle of the screen (although i always move it to the top left of the screen), and the icon positions are scrambled within the window (although i always go to 'View/Show View Options and select the global option -- which is set to 'keep arranged by name').

My question is: is there a way to tell the computer to remember window setting preferences (i.e. last window position, last icon positions / last arrangement) even after the computer is shutdown.

Thanks.

Basically, set the folder options the way you like them then close the window. Open it up again to make sure the settings stick. If the "global" setting doesn't work out then try using the "this window only" setting instead. If things still don't stick after you've closed the window try turning off the "keep arranged by name" option - the auto-arrange features on Mac OS X are a little flaky, especially on the desktop.
