SBC DSL and OSX 10.4.6

G4 imac is crashing frequently after installing software for SBC/AT&T yahoo high speed service with a modem. Tried using Firefox and Safari but no difference. DSL service works but will crash, hang or get "You must restart you Macintosh now" box over faded screen within minutes. Sometimes black screen with terminal command login appears. Anyone else? Thanks
 
I use SBC-Yahoo and no software was required to log in and connect. Are you using this because your DSL modem is a USB-only modem?

Is it possible the software was for a much earlier OS X like 10.1?
