Screen is blue

My screen has messed up colors. I'm on a G4 PowerMac 733Mhz QS with 384Mb and 40Gb.
I've tried the screen with another computer and it worked fine. Apple Hardware-check didn't find problems. It's not software 'cause I've re-installed the OS, whiping out everything else on the HD.
I'm also not protected by AppleCare.

What do I do???

I assume you've checked the connection between the screen and the video card. This sounds like a video card problem, I don't know much about mac cards but I'm assuming you can download drivers for it at the nVidia site. You may want to do that.

My brother had a nVidia GeForce on his PC and it did something similar, grey lines and a blue-ish tint. If the new drivers don't do anything, try switching video cards with somebody if you have that option. If not, take the machine to get it looked at. It's still under warranty and if there's a problem you want yourself a new piece of hardware.

I'll try that...I don't know exactly what a new driver will do...the screen worked fine before, and I didn't have anything downloaded then. The screen seems to have lost the color Red and simply replaced it with black.

My bad, I tried only the monitor with another computer, the problem was in the cord connecting the monitor to the computer, a couple of pins were bent...never mind this post

Wow, that sounds cool. Does the monitor really turn blue/red/green because of some bent pins? I have to try that... :D hehe

Beleve me, it wasn't cool at all, infact it was scary. I have a Windoze-friend(he bought my old computer, so I can't complain) and I couldn't have him over for a week in fear he'd get a REASON to trash Mac...

But go ahead. Unless you have ADC, just take you'r VGA-cable and bend a couple of pins...see the scary effects

I've been having this problem on occasion with my imac too. Also someone else posted the same problem on their imac. I just comes and goes randomly, usually just restarting it fixes it, which is why you probably thought it was fixed by straightening your pins. This only started to happen after I got osx, but still happens sometimes when I boot up in os9. I don't know. Someone thought it could be a vidio card problem, or a tube problem in the monitor (which I doubt since my mac is not that old). I'm starting to think it's a wierd software problem, or driver thing or something (yeah I'm not too knowledgable about such things). Anyone else having an occasional wierd screen experience?

Maybe a short circuit on the ATI chip or a leading metal object on the G3 chip? ;)

Hmm, I've never had trouble with that, but I guess it's because of the monitor, maybe when it gets out of sync? When does the screen turn blue? Or dos it just do it randomely?

And I thought Mitsubishi made good monitors... ;) :p

well my imac screen turns blue more and more now. This morning I had to restart it 6 times before it came on correctly. One of my friends thought it could be a degossing (is that the right word?) problem. I guess usually there's a degoss button on monitors which wipes the magnet clean when it gets screwed up like that, but on imacs there's know button for it, it just does it automatically when you restart. So what I'm wondering is if osx interfears with the monitor degossing command at startup. Could this be a possibility? Does anyone have this problem with LCD screens? cause I guess that would prove this theory wrong if they did.

Degaussing... ;)
Nope, magnetic waves are not a problem on LCD screens.
Yep, sounds like your iMac is affected by electomagnetic waves, do you have any electronic equipment near your iMac? Or magnets?...

yes I do have some electronic equiptment around my mac, cd player, mixing board, stereo reciever. But no magnets or big speakers. Do you think it's a degaussing problem? It could be from all the electrical stuff around my computer I guess. I've seen quite a few other people having this same problem. I don't know how to insert their thread, but here's the link to one of the people http://www.press3.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11335

Humm, maybe, I don't know...
But if it appears often, you can try to unplug all the stuff and see if it happens then... :)

I don't think that's it, all of my electrical stuff is almost always turned off anyway. And I've had this setup for 2 years with no problem, until 6 weeks ago when I installed osx. I'm still wondering if it could be a software problem.

I have seen this and repaired a few iMacs already with this symptom. It seems to happen to older iMacs less frequently than newer ones, but I have had to replace 2 400 mhz iMac analog boards already. Not an easy job and in fact requires software and a special cable to complete the job. Typcal cost out of warranty is around 125. for part and anywhere from 80. to 120. for labor depending on shop you go to.

Symptoms are flashing colors, primarily blue to purple tint, missing color(s), dead display but working otherwise.
