I had disabled the spotlight icon from appearing in the top menu by copying and pasting the search.bundle file from core services to another directory. this worked fine, but i decided to get spotlight back and despite the fact that i have returned the file to it's original location, i cannot get the icon to appear. i had also turned off the clock, battery life and all other icons, and now when i apply to reset them in system preferences they remain disabled.
part of the process of removing spotlight is quitting a task in the activity monitor called SystemUIServer. This task now appears for a second or two, then dissappears for a second or two. My guess is that this task is responsible for icons in the menu bar, but I'm not positive about that.
Any ideas on how to restore the icons and spotlight?
