Secure Wireless Internet Connection Sharing?

I need to allow my Mac g4 to share my dsl with my dell laptop. I can't afford to buy an airport so I must do it with the G4. It's running Mac OSX Panther. I've read up on it, and apparently it's black magic and alchemy at best to get this working with WEP, so is there some other way of keeping people off of my connection? The main guy I want to repel is pretty dumb, so I don't really care how secure it is as long as it makes things harder for him. Even turning off DHCP would help. What I'd really like to do is use MAC authentication.

Buy a wireless router, which is not that expensive in general. These offer a wide range of security protections including MAC authentication.

Good luck, Kees

If I were given these constraints, I'd use OpenVPN, and set up the Mac to share only to the VPN and not to the Airport. But I don't know how difficult that is to set up on Mac.
