Selection Changes when Making a New folder

I have had this problem ever since I got OSX, and I've never been able to find anything about it..

Whenever I create a new folder, it is created as "untitled folder" and then instead of open an edit field for the folder name, it just selects the folder, so I then have to click in the name and set the name of the folder.

Is this just an accepted way of life, or is the problem unique to me? I used to enjoy creating a folder and not having to scroll back through a window to name it.

In 10.2.8, when you create a new folder, just immediately type a name. May be the same in 10.2.6, don't remember it's been so long :)

That doesn't really do it for me.. even instantly beginning typing after the new folder gets created.. it just starts trying to select whatever item is in the same directory beginning with the letter I type.

Are you using the List View?

You must be using the List View! Right? Because in Icon and Column Views (my favorite ;) ) when you click to create a new folder, instantly the new untitled folder waits for you to type a name...

If the thing you describe happens in any view that's simply

Let us know what gives!

If you insist on using the List View instead of Clicking-Typing Name-Enter use the Enter-Type Name-Enter... It is just a minor Enter key before typing anything! This isn't so hard! ;)

Anyways, if you Rename folders THAT much why don't you do it while in Column View or Icon View? :D
