send emails via mail using an aol account

hello. I am new to this forum and hope that somebody might be able to help.

I use my ibook G4 since 5 years and I love it, but sofar I have not been able to set up Mail properly. I have a aol account and as far as I found out it's pop.aol.com. I can receive emails!! But unfortunatelly it's not possible to send them via Mail. I have to go online to send them.

in addition I cannot download my adressbook to my Mail-adresses. Is there a way other than coping them by hand?

I'll bet AOL doesn't allow what's called "Third party forwarding". I'd suggest getting a google email account, have your aol emails forwarded there, and then follow the gmail pop and smtp instructions.

If I were this person, I wouldn't even bother with AOL. It's so 1999. :)
