Using phone line only (not internet, please), the simple task of sending a fax with manually dialing on Mac OS X 10.6.7 is a nightmare for me using my USB Modem.
There's a lot of companies that have an operator that transfer to a fax machine instead of having a direct line for fax. "I give you fax signal, please hang on", said the operator and transfer the call to a Fax machine.
The idea of this post is to find a way for:
1) Dialing manually and wait the operator to give fax signal.
2) When I hear the traditional fax's noise then press a button to send the fax from my Mac.
3) The Mac should only send the fax without dialing that would be do it by me before.
How can be done?
My test:
1) Without operator... no problem to send a fax from my Mac if in the other side is a direct phone line number for exclusive faxing purpose. Using the Mac built-in fax capabilities is enough, but don't have manually way to do it.
2) PageSender application is not good for me and specially the "Send Manual" feature. When use these procedure it's appears a "Manual Send" window with a message: "Dial....(number).... When you hear the fax answer tone, press "Send Now". This sheet will close when it's okay to hang up." and after my dialing and with signal fax ready... PageSender begin to dial again instead of sending the fax.
3) FaxCenter application is old and don't works under Snow Leopard and is the replacement of the old GlobalFax that use serial ports instead of USB.
4) CoMa application don't have manually capabilities and Faxstf Pro is discontinued and don't works on 10.6
5) Mac OS X Terminal... mm... check unix command "man fax" for details.
fax send -v -m filename is not clear for me. Some books said you need to convert to postscript or text or using TIFF compress. It works with previous manual dialing?
FINALLY: Someone can help me with command, application or Applescript to send a fax manually WITHOUT automatic dialing (using human dialing).
Can you help me?
Thanks.
Tom
