Serial ATA to debut soon in PCs

Why would we care? Aside from their claims of greater transfer speed, the only real advantages they lay claim to are the slimmer cables. I can see the advantages, especially from the point of view of building a PC, but I wouldn't get too excited about it.
I'd say Apple will adopt the technology only when it is useful to them. If they find they can build a better system by using ultra-ATA, they'll do it. But until then, they won't bother. I'm sure it'll catch on when a few of the other system bottlenecks are dealt with.

the big deal is higher data rates, that and slimmer cables is a big deal to me, this will hopefully pressure harddrive makers to get their butts in gear and start making some faster hd's because we will see very little speed improvement until then

hd's are what our speed problems are in general these days...
