Setting Sound Input Preferences

It all started at 3......
Hey guys,

I recently plugged in an external microphone to speak with people on Skype. It works well except periodically the volume goes really quiet. I checked my sound preferences and noticed that the input volume always seems to reset back to the default whether I've switched off the machine or not. Is there a way that I can set the sound input higher and it will remain there until I tell it to do otherwise?

Many thanks.

Ian

Sorry I can't help, but if it's any consolation, I have the same problem with Gizmo. My iMac has a built-in mic, but I plug in a Plantronics USB headset whenever I need to make a call. Gizmo allows the user to set input volume in Preferences, but the longer I am away the lower the setting goes, all the way down to Zero. Input Volume in the Sound Preference Pane also tends to go down, though not to zero. Because the internal mic in my iMac seems to be always on, I figured it was just self-adjusting to the safety level. But that does not explain why Gizmo's settings drop all the time, even when it is inactive.

I installed software called Psst because I was tired of the default master volume level being set to halfway with every reboot. It seems to work fine. It might help. The description says it turns off the chord sound when the Mac boots, but that is an option, and can be disabled if you like that sound.

Hey Curiosity,

I downloaded psst, but how does this control my mic sound input?

Thank you...

Ian
