setting up an airport network

my girlfriends father just got an airport extreme base station. I was able to get his laptop working wirelessly with no problem.

They also have an old blue dalmation iMac that is not wireless. Can you run a cable from the LAN port on base station to the ethernet port on the iMac? Does it need to be a crossover cable or will a regular cable work?

Are there any settings or anything that need to be changed on the base station to make it work?

Yes, LAN side patch cable, NOT crossover. No settings change on the base station, but you need to set up internet settings (on iMac) to configure via dhcp.
If this doesn't do it, give us more details, like what settings are on the laptop, what IP addresses each computer and the base station have, etc.
