Hi there, I'm going to have to share my internet connection with a PC running windows 98 - is this possible through the built in modem on my Ti500? running OSX 10.2?
What kind of internet connection? If it is a dial up, you are better off getting a splitter for the phone jack.
If it is a Cable or DSL, you should be a router or home network modem from your ISP. Then you can both be on the internet at the same time, or one can be on while the other machine is shut down.
All you need is a splitter. Place it in the phone jack, then connect both computer modems to it. One to each port in the splitter.
Since it is a dial up connection, you can only have one computer on line at a time. The splitter can be found in the phone section of any hardware store or RadioShack. It allows two phone cables to be connected to one wall jack.
Ok, I get that, but I actually want both machines on the net at the same time. At the moment I'm using a router with my broadband line, and both PC & Mac are on the interent just fine. Just want to know if I can do the same with a 56k phone line.
10.2 has built-in internet sharing capabilities. On your machine running 10.2, open System Preferences and click the 'Sharing' pane. Click the 'Internet' tab in that pane and turn it on. On your Win98 machine, simply turn on DHCP. This will share your dial-up connection.
