sharing internet connection

I hate Meath
I want to share the internet connection between my powermac and powerbook. Both have airport cards and both are networked via airport and working fine. Tricky part is that I only have a dial-up connection. Is it possible for my powerbook to use the dial-up connection once it is established on the powermac? I downloaded and installed the squid based Dansguardian filtering software and configured the powermac based on their suggestions. The main reason for doing this is for an afterschool homework club I intend to start in September next. It allows filtering of content and I'd like to be able to move around the room with my powerbook without tripping over a phone line. The children could also move the powerbook around if necessary without worrying about the phone line. Broadband is not available where I live at the moment so thats not an option. Has anyone got any ideas?

What you're wanting is what I have.

The problem area might be your dial-up account. Your ISP might not like you sharing a connection between two computers, so you might want to check with them first.

If all is fine, on the computer you intend to connect with, go in the System Preferences, select the Sharing button, and then click on the Internet tab.

Then just click the big button called Start...

Went to sys prefs, changed internet sharing to on but still unable to browse from the powerbook. The powerbook is set to use DHCP. Do I need to configure a proxy address or anything?

Sorry about that .. me being lazy. There is more.

Go into System Preferences on your PowerBook and then select the Network button.

Now click on the AirPort item in the list [I have a few, you might have AirPort and Internal Modem]

Double-click it and then select the TCP/IP tab.

In the Router field, put the IP address of the computer sharing the internet connection.

You also might want to drop in the Primary & Secondary DNS Server addresses into the field below.

Now, I _think_ that's everything...

Great stuff Octane, just got it working. Typical former windows user, I was making it far too complicated!!!!

Nice one!

Now what you want to do is scribble down your settings so that when you come to update your system or other stuff, you don't have to go around scratching your head wondering what you did last time.

Sounds obvious, sounds patronizing .. but it's worth doing...
