sharing problems over my network...

I am having a problem that's darn near driving me back to os 9! I never had this problem before upgrading to osx.

I have a desktop mac, older g4 466, with 10.3, and a titanium powerbook with 10.1.5. I have an external 120g western digital fw hard drive connected to my desktop mac, and it works great, on the desktop mac! When I connect to it from my powerbook, it sees the drive, but I can't create a folder on it or write a file to it. I can only copy from it. In the get info panel, I have 'Ignore ownership on this drive' checked...didn't work. I set everything there to Read & Write, instead of Read Only...didn't work. I even have a second hd in my tower, and connecting to that results in the same problems...can't write!

The only thing I can think of that I haven't done is reformat the drive and try again. I formatted it originally under os 9, but it works perfect from my tower, just not over the network to my powerbook. If I connect it directly to my powerbook, it works perfect there. I've tried searching google, but all I get in info on connecting a mac external with a pc network.

I know it is a permissions problem, just can't figure out how to set the permissions so that ANY computer on my network can read & write to this drive.

Someone else at one point said to reset the permissions on the drive. Well, in Disk Utility, it won't let me...it'll only offer the permission repair option on the startup drive.

What can I do?

Thanks much!
Dan

This isn't specific to your firewire drive, it will happen with any mounted volume -- it happened to me when I tried reading a cd on my iBook from my G4.

There's no way to set the share options on a volume like you could under OS9, which is a real shame.

If there is a way to do this, I'd also like to know...

All I want is to be able to let any user on my network access my drive as if it were in their own computer...full read/write priveledges in EVERY folder.

Is this possible at all with os 10.3?

I just downloaded and looked at SharePoints, but I am totally confused as to how to use it.
