Shut down! What gives!?!

Hi Everyone...

I just had a rather scary moment! While cranking away on a freelance assignment, all of a sudden my G4 shutdown. No blackout of the room, just the tower. Upon subsequent reboot, the computer started up to the point of the spinning thing, and then shut down again. I was able to get it to startup again--so for the time being it runs.

What's extra strange is that it is hooked up to a Belkin UPS with battery backup. So I assume it's the computer only... ?

It's a Dual 450 G4 Tower, with 10.2.4 running.
Lots of periph: Scanner, printer, tablet, burner.

Directly hooked up to a Belkin UPS, along with a monitor, and USB hub.

Thanks for any and all help. Perhaps it's time to spring for a new one, but I'm holding out (against hope) for the next gen G4..(or G5)..

thanks, all

try unplugging it from the belkin device and see what happens. belkin makes lousy products and often problems can be traced to them. so if youre having power problems and using a belkin power device, rule it out first before proceding.

Thanks edX--I have done so, and so far no problems...

I think that the computer might have overheated.. I ran a pretty disk intensive font prog before it shut down a couple of times.

I just wished I had known that Belkin made bad UPS's before dropping so much on one... is ADC a good alternative, or if you know of any others, could you tell me?

On the other hand... I've been eying the Powerbooks for some time now!!

yea, i found out about belkin products the hard way myself. and the worse part in my experience is that belkin won't even support them. they like to blame everything on apple for not writing the system to suit belkin.

i don't know of any specific alternatives for you but anyone that makes the device other than belkin has got to be better.

Hrm, well I will find something else... thanks for the help!

Bad belkin, bad!!

*sigh*

(waitin' fer new powerbooks..) :)
