Sick of my ibook

I bought an ibook about 2 years ago but it kept freezing when I adjusted the screen, about 6 months ago I bought another ibook (both snow G3 800mhz) and thought this would be ok, I was wrong, the charger needs replacing within 2 weeks of owning it, and 9/10 times the screen didn't work when it booted up or if it did it would slowly fade, I sent it off to Apple in August and got it back within 2 days which I was inpressed with, I have been very nervous about my ibook incase it happens again and guess what........................... IT'S HAPPENED AGAIN, problem is I think my AppleCare ran out this month. I love Mac's 2 bits and never had a problem with my old Strawberry imac but all the ibooks I have owned have been so unreliable!!!!!!! I'm feeling really annoyed at this moment of time!!!

I understand your annoyance and frustration. I would be as well. I guess I was one of the 'lucky' ones with regards to my iBook. Mine take a beating and keeps going w/o incidence. Try calling up the Apple Support. Talk your way up to higher levels of management if need be. I bet they will support your iBook problem if you explain the situation.

I just contacted them, my AppleCare ran out on January 4th :( and when I tried explaining I coincidently got 'fault on the line' message, this same thing happened to my friend so personally I don't think that I'm 'unlucky' I used to think that but now I just think that the ibook is cr3p and people should just put the extra toward the powerbook.

I'll be very annoyed if I get a huge bill to get it fixed!!!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Seriously, call back, ask for a Manager, see what he can do. If he can't help, go one more manager up. There was someone else who did this. The problem is that there is a potential class action lawsuit building up with Apple regarding iBook problems. Move your way up till someone helps. They will do it, I am almost positive they will help.

I would never buy an iBook ever. This is why:

Like 2 years ago I bought FROM APPLE CUSTOM MADE....the top of the line iBook. Mac OS X had JUST came out too. It was like 667mhz G3 with DVD/CD-RW and 512mb of ram etc. Tons of crap. When I went to connect to the internet in any OS (9 or X), it would freeze and I'd get an indefinite spinny-color-wheel. I sent my iBook back to apple 3 times. It kept happening. They totally REPLACED my iBook. Still happened. Ended up just returning it to them completely and cancelling our apple loan. That had me ticked off at apple for awhile.

Lesson learned: Cough up the cash for the Powerbook. It's so worth the money and built so much better. So sorry to hear you had iBook problems too.

I just wish I'd know all these problems before I bought it cos I would have just bought another imac cos I don't really need a laptop just fancied trying one

Sorry about all your disappointments regarding the iBook. I have no doubts that the QC has improved, especially now that it is selling in higher numbers than before. Well, just stay Mac users, and we won't have to hurt ya! And as you know, I am just kidding.

lol, they are going to extend my warrenty and fix but I'm unsure weather just to sell it and buy myself a good old shape imac again cos I loved my old one and can't afford a new shape one with just buying a new house :(

Well, hold up and see what the quality of the fix job is. Perhaps it will be working great.
Actually, go ahead and sell it, and buy yourself what you need, however look into the eMac before you buy the old formfactor iMac. eMac has a lot of options and isn't too expensive.

they fixed this problem before and it's come back but this time I'm out of warrenty and I'm not gonna shell out for more AppleCare as I don't have the money, like you said I think I'll sell my ibook for about £500 and look at getting an imac, emac or powermac for about £600 :D
