SimCity4 unplayable

A quick Google search for 'SimCity 4 problems on mac OS X' revealed I'm not the only one suffering here. Newly purchased SimCity 4 has serious re-draw problems making it unplayable on my 15" G4 Powerbook 10.4.4/1GhzPowerPC/512Mb/60GigHD. Tried jigging the graphics prefs - no joy.
Anyone found a solution?

There's a performance update on Apple's site that helps a little. I'll never spend another dime on Aspyr software -- huge ripoff!
