Slow iPod Updating

I have a MacPro running on OS 10.4.6 and a 40 GB 4th. generation iPod.Every time I add new songs (I have 6959 now) the sync process (i.e. 'updating') takes app. 1 minute per new song.
With my previous G4 Powerbook this did not happen. It was much faster.

Any comments?

Owen.

Are you plugging in the iPod through a hub, or a USB port on a keyboard? Perhaps this slowness is caused by the iPod being plugged into a USB 1.1 port.

will it is not being pluged into a USB 1.1 port. when pluged in to that type of port the iPod will not mount at all. OS X will see it and tell you it will not mount it when it is on a "Low Power USB Port. Please replug it in to a USB 2.0 or Firewire port to be able to use it." Now for the songs. what is going on here is most likely this. the new MacBook Pros do not use the old HFS or HFS+ file format. They can mount and work on drives that have that filesystem on it. But it will be slow. Till Apple gets a new ipod out that use the filesystem that the new Intel mac use, your copy will be slower.
