Sluggish Outgoing Email using Mail after Office 2008 Install

Any one else have this problem after installing Microsoft's Office 2008 for Mac. Everything working fine up to this install.. post install... erractic internet browsing speeds and seriously sluggish outgoing mail using Mail 3.2.

Am I going crazy.... or could this software install actually cause this type of problematic effect on what was a perfectly working connection previous to this install.

I have installed the lastest update... and repaired permissions... but still no difference... I have a 2MB down 1MB up connection... speeds incoming are fine... outgoing vary from 0kb to 15kb to 50kb... very erractic...

Any help or comments most welcome.

Yours sincerely,

When you are using Mail and it feel sluggish, open Console (Applications/Utilities) and see what it tells what is happening.
(if in doubt post the lines generated when fetching mail or when it just is slow, here and someone else can translate if needed)

I have a similar problem which is sending me batty. I can receive email fine, but often it hangs when I try to send mail, even one-line text messages as my first act of the day. Then it comes up with an "unable to send" message. It happens at all sorts of time of day or night and can persist for hours. Oddly enough, today it has been fine.

I am running OSX 10.4.11 with the latest update on an Intel Mac Mini and am using Orange(UK) as a provider. I have been with them for a long long time and have not had to change their settings. I use their Livebox for a broadband connection.

The extra twists in the tale are that my son (who also uses an older mac, sharing the Livebox) is experiencing the same problem, and that it only happens to our Freeserve/Orange account. Our mail service with Yahoo etc. run as normal.

I have tried (and tried) the broadband help that Orange provide, but their responses are locked into a frustrating "we understand your concerns....please check your settings using this .......please do not hesitate to get in touch ..." Obviously their answers are virtually automated, as they seem unable to respond to what I tell them - that I have checked the settings and that 2 independent computers have simultaneously developed the same problem.

I'll let you know if I get anywhere, but if anyone out there has any ideas it will stop me having to search for any hair left to pull out.
