So now I have to get a stinkin' AIM account to use iChat...

rharder

Do not read this sign.
Since instant messaging is not worth $100 per year, I guess I'll have to get an AIM account now that iTools (free for life...of iTools) is going down.

You're losing alot of good karma, Apple.

Um, as far as I know, instant messaging never costed $100 and still doesn't.

What the hell are you complaining about now?

RHarder's point is that he can't use his mac.com email addy to sign onto iChat with, so he has to sign up with AOL.

Rob- Don't take this personally man, I think you're cool. I also totally agree with it's bunk, but you just have to relax and take an objective view at this from Apple's shoes. They were offering a ton of bandwidth for free and probably loosing a ton of money. I don't blame them at all for this move and IMO it was the right thing to do.

However, I do agree with you that they should at least keep the email free, or maybe offer a 15 mb email account alone for $15 a year. That would be more than reasonable I would think.

I dunno what I'm getting into so I'll just stop now. :)

I know Apple has to make money, but I just want an email address, and $100 per year is too much money. On top of that, in classic Apple style, you don't get any other options, like a cheaper email-only account.

Yet.

Maybe they'll hear our incessant, pathetic whining and give us email for those of us who only want email, even if it costs a little bit of money.

I misread your post at first.

But you don't have to use your mac.com address...you can create a new screen name for AIM.

I like AIM better than AOL, in all honesty.

I am looking forward to iChat...even though I know it is just AIM with new features. :)
