something wrong with my mac on this network

Hi there,

I am having trouble connecting to the wireless network (and thus, internet) in my house. Though all the other laptops in the house have no problem connecting, my MacBook throws up the message "There was an error joining the AirPort network "7605 6421"". Our wireless broadband modem/router is a Belkin Netopia, and I've used the MacBook with it successfully until now.

When I attempt to run the diagnostic tool in the Network pane of System Preferences, it asks me for a WEP Password for this network - which we do not have, or use. I have read through the troubleshooting page on Apple's site, and though most of the information was irrelevant to this, I attempted most of the steps but with no success.

The AirPort card seems to be in working order; it is detecting all present networks, (including, obviously, the one which is not working) and even asking for a WEP Password when I click on one of the others - our neighbour's one etc. There is also no trouble creating a network, which is then visible in the network selection pane of my other laptop, a Dell PC.

In conclusion, I have no idea at all as to what is going on; no settings were changed, and the functionality of this particular network ceased on this computer suddenly, while I was posting a message on a forum.

Anything you can do to help will be most appreciated,

Thank you, and Happy Christmas,

Aidan

If it is prompting for a WEP password, then that means that you have a WEP password set on your Belkin Netopia. I suggest looking in the manual for your Belkin Netopia to find out how to change the password.
