Sony CD-RW & No iTunes/Disc Burner?

About 6 months ago, my brother, who works for a JVC dealer, got a new CD/MP3 player for his car. i myself got one later, with the intention to buy a burner in the near future. well eventually i sold my old car, and used the cash to buy a burner, and new HDD. i found a guy who was selling Sony 24x burners, in external cases for $A550, which is better than $A650 for a 16x. Anyways. According to the Apple website, iTunes, and Disc Burner support the Sony models: CRX-120E, CRX-145E, CRX-160E, and the CRX700E (Listed as the mech. for a LaCie). Now, one would assume that my CRX-175E is simply an updated model to the others. But iTunes simply wont see it, and DiscBurner will let me put files onto the "fake" disk it creates on the desktop, but shits itself when i tell it to burn, saying the drive isn't supported. Any ideas? Is this common with updated models, and most importantly, will Apple's future releases of Authoring Support support this?

Note: The Apple Solutions guy i bought it from, said Toast Titanium replaces the "Authoring Support" files with it's own, and that iTunes etc. will work seamlessly with the Toast support files. what's the frickin deal?
