Speakers and sound cards

I'm in the process of buying a 1.42 DP PowerMac, 20" Cinema Display, and the ATI Radeon 9700 Pro; My next decision is the speakers: Swans are my choice (T200a studio monitors + Sub200) ... both the studio monitors and sub have amps built in, 80W and 100W, respectively ... my question is, what is the best sound card, Mac compatibilty-wise, for these speakers? and is an external USB sound card better than a regular PCI card?

I would have to say from my experience that an internal card is almost always better than USB just by sheer speed available. If you had a firewire option, that might better compete with the internal option. Get the internal sound card if you can. That's my recommendation.

I had a PowerMac 7200/90 (upgraded to a dual 180) with a sound card and I was able to still do some great recording with a sound card.

Hope this helps! Cheers.

I'd suggest m-audio sound products. They have good mac support. I have their revolution 7.1 card. Works for me.

I agree ... I've decided on the M-Audio Delta 66; I checked the drivers for it, and it is compatible with OS 10.2.x ...
hopefully, it will be compatible with Apple's DVD player (although I see no reason it shouldn't, I HAVE heard of compatibilty problem with some cards with Apple's DVD player)

Well, for one thing, the simplicity; and I'm already cramped for space in my little hovel (that's why I'm going with a 2.1 system rather than 5.1 and beyond ...).
