In last week's sunday supplement (Sette) to the most read italian newspaper (il Corriere della Sera) there was an interview to Pasquale Pistorio, CEO of ST Microelectronics. During the interview Pistorio, who has worked from 1967 to 1980 in Motorola USA - microelectronics division, has stated that a mid-term goal for the French-Italian company would be to buy that same division of Motorola.
Since ST Micro is now the third chip-maker in the world, after Intel and Toshiba, the goal seems plausible and the aquisition could well take place. It wasn't specified if the PowerPC chip would be part of the deal, but I think it mandatory... if Moto can't build better chips, why not to sell the whole business?
