Starting iTunes automatically

iTunes is not always collaborative.

My iTunes setup is as follows. I have 3 accounts on my iMac. An admin, and 2 users (you guessed: husband and wife) - this setup ensures basic security. All iTunes loading is done on the privileged account, whilst listening is done through the user accounts using the iTunes share music option.

However, this setup has a draw-back. iTunes must be running in the admin account. So to listen to music each user must first login-in to the admin account, start iTunes, then connect to his personal account, start iTunes and use the share music option. I understand technically why iTunes behaves like this - but find this a little uncollaborative on iTunes part.

I was wondering if there is a way to auotamtically start iTunes under the Admin account at iMac startup?

Basically: no. Why not instead of using iTunes sharing, allow the two normal accounts read-access to the folder where the Music is stored, and then "add" those files to your own library's... Probably best to move the music out of the "admin" account's home drive if you wanted to do it that way...

Hi Pengu, thanks for the quick response.

Personnally, I prefer the iTunes sharing option as it also works when we use one of our portable macs. Thus music can be enjoyed at any moment, in any place and using the same "access mechanism".

I tried the file sharing option, but this is not really flexible when using airport. For me, the only good thing is the separate directory with the music files - which I have.

 Is this true? This is actually something unix cannot do! Start a task under an account at system startup?
