Problem:
When in OS9 I go into the "startup disk" from the apple menu and choose the folder "MAC OS 10.2.6 (Build 6L60)". It shuts down then I hear the chimes and it boots back into OS 9! WTF!?

History:
Earlier in the day my comp froze and I pressed to reboot. OSX login showed up and I typed my password and it just kept going for like 20 minutes and never logged in. I pressed the button to reboot again and again and I finally decided to login with my wife's screen name (not admin) and it logged in within seconds.

I then put Drive 10 to see what was going on and it said I had trouble with my volume. It said it fixed the volume by replacing it and I then rebooted and that's when all the problems started.

Misc:
When you go into users within OS 9 I can see all my files including my desktop but it just won't reboot from the startup in OS 9.

DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY ANSWERS? SUGGESTIONS? I NEED HELP.....please....

Thank you,
Scribblah

Okay, first, foremost and above all: Make another backup immediately. You might have to backup your home folders through os9. Grab your library folders, and check that you have your bookmarks, email accounts, keychains, chat contacts ... anything you might need.

It sounds as if there was some sort of drive fault that has caused the volume to become corrupted. Drive has clearly failed to fix this correctly, so you still have a problem there.

It is quite likely you will have to reformat and reinstall to correct the problem. Lets hope it doesn't come to that, but lets be ready just in case.

That said, you might be able to boot into Mac OS X by holding the X button while switching on.

You might also be able to run the disk utility to correct premissions and drive errors from the Mac OS X install CD, by holding C when you boot up. When the installer loads, you can call up Disk Utility in the Installer menu.
