Strange iBook ethernet behavior

Here's a weird one: ever since upgrading to OS 10.1, my iBook doesn't shut off the ethernet hardware if a cable is connected and the computer is put into sleep mode. This is obvious from the link light staying lit on whatever hub is attached. I'm sure it's just a software bug, but you might want to keep this in mind if you frequently leave your iBook connected to the internet. I have no idea if it's doing any data transmission in this mode...

Try going to Preferences > Energy Saver > Options and uncheck Wake for network administrative access. That may fix it.

Ah! I can't believe I didn't notice that. Thanks. Incidentally, just what is considered "network administrative access," anyway?

I believe that it applies to computers on a network, like in a small business or computer lab. It keeps your ethernet port listening to the network and if your computer is being contacted while asleep, it will wake up.

I think that's the gist of it.
