Stuck at reboot screen

I just did a standard update, click the little apple in the upperl left hand corner, software update, and when it was done it told me to shut down or reboot, like always, I clicked reboot, expecting like normal it would be a rather quick thing, and for the last 3+ hours now it has been at the reboot screen the little wheel spinning, doing absolutely nothing! I am outside of the US right now and my laptop is my only connection to my friends and family in the states PLEASE HELP!
