Superdrive in Distress

Hey Mac-users,
I am new here and searching for advice. I have a iMac g4 15" flattie ,that is having issues. Seems the Superdrive will recognise movie DVD's fine but will not mount CD's / CD-ROM's / or DVD media. Is this a drive problem or a firmware problem?

P.s I know I already posted this , I am re-posting here to get a response.
 
Probably not firmware. Before you swap out the
drive, get a CD/DVD lens cleaner. Before that
try holding down the mouse button during startup.
