Superdrive Not burning

Vard

Looking for progress
Hey people,

Not sure if anyone can help me here. For the last few months I guess, I don't burn that often, I haven't been able to burn CD's with either Toast or iTunes. They both start, and then after a few minutes teh computer kicks out a torched and worthless CD and then I get an error message.

I will try to attach the error messages that Toast and iTunes are giving.

Don't think it will tell anyone anything, but maybe.

Thanks,
Eddie

OK...it's only letting add one attachment....I must be an idiot.....but I chose the Toast cause I think there is more information there.

Thanks again

Did you try different media? Take brandnames such as Verbatim and try with those CDs first. If that one fails too, you should consult apple...
I would guess you are using bad CD-Rs

Does it just occur on CD-Rs, or same to CD-RWs or DVD-Rs even?
It would be a try of no cost, if you would just try deleting a CD-RW. If it works, I would again blame it on the media. And how does the simulation-mode work?
There is one last chance to fix it, but I will wait for it till you reply on my questions! ;)

OK....thanks....I will try to get ahold of some other RW's and DVD's. I'll report back when I get some results.

Thanks for the help,
Eddie

Ok, let me prepare you on the last thing that was on my mind. Before I wasn't able to burn some special kind of DVD-Rs. Got the same error-message like you. After I did a firmware-update, which also allowed me to use 2xDVD-R burning-speed, everything worked just fine. You might consider this, but keep one thing in your mind: if you still have warrenty, you shouldn't go for it. Apple might blame that prob (in the case the new update won't fix it too) on that firmware update, which was not written by Apple. And than you might lose your warrenty and should pay for the reparation...

Well...I am out of warranty already, so point me in the direction of the firmware update. I take my chances....right now it aint working...

Thanks again,
Eddie

Well, now I have some probs to find the page.
I remember someone once posted, that he managed to burn with his laptop-superdrive 2x DVD-Rs after a special firmware-upgrade. Went to that page and there were several other upgrades for other superdrives as well (powermac, iMac...). I downloaded that file and all of the sudden I was able to burn 2x DVD-Rs and some media I bought, but wasn'T able to burn before, worked again...
I will have to search for it, but now I am on work. Will do it when I am home...
