Superdrive UJ845B isn't recognized

I just replaced my dead superdrive with a panasonic UJ845B in my
15 inch Powerbook (titanium)
1ghz

System preferences says there's no information found. Unfortunately, my rampant searches on the internet have found nothing useful regarding this, so I can only assume a couple things...

1. The connection cable is bad somehow, though it powers up.

2. The drive just isn't compatable, despite it being advertised as compatable.

3. The powerbook has a conflict with the UJ845B being set to master with no conventional method to change it to slave other than to run some firmware.

Before I go nuts replacing cables and dismantling this thing again, I'd like to know if anyone else has had issues with replacing their superdrives. Perhaps not necessarily the same drive, but any experience where the system preferences reports no information found. It might not be as hard as I am imagining to get this thing functional.

Any information or questions are appreciated.
Thanks

(yes, I did search the boards first)

Though this seems useful, it didn't do anything. Patchburn said there isn't a dvd burner installed. If the dvd drive didn't power up this wouldn't confuse me.
Thanks for the info though. Now at least I have patchburn.

Hi Solisis.
I've got your same problem.
I've replaced the "dead" combo drive of my powerbook g4 12" 1ghz dvi, with a super drive panasonic uj845b, but the system seems don't recognize it.
In Hardware profile is displayed the message "not drive found".
Do you know if ther is any solution at this problem?
should I change drive?
Do you know If any patch exist?

best regards,

and.
