switch App and close windows?

Isn't there any application, other than DragThing, that will cleanly close all other windows when switching between applications? Yes I know I can do this by a modifier key (Command-option, I think) but is there a utility or unix command that will do this by default?

If you have a keyboard or mouse macro utility, you could create a macro with that will first do a Cmd-Tab to switch apps, then a "Cmd-Opt-H" to do a "Hide Others".

You might need to do a "Show All" in between those two for it to work.
