Switched back to OS 9, now can't boot

Hi- I was running OS 9.1 and 10.39 on my blue and white G3, 450 mhz. Due to some printing problems I tried to have it start from OS 9. This caused a complete disaster and the computer won't start now. I get a picture of what looks like a broken disk. I've tried starting it holding down the "C" key and the"X" key, nothing works. Any recommendations to either start it or rescue information from the hard drive would be greatly appreciated. Is this the type of thing disk warrior would help on?

If you are pressing both the 'c' and 'x' keys while rebooting, that is incorrect.

If you have inserted the 'MacOS 9 Disc' ('System 9'), when rebooting - press the 'c' key to force the Mac to boot to the disc's operating system.

If you have inserted the 'Panther Install Disc 1', when rebooting - press the 'c' (or the 'x', if the 'c' key process fails) to force the Mac to boot to the disc's operating system.
If you press the 'x' instead of 'c' during the boot process - you will have to wait up to a minute, after all possible boot volumes' icons appear, before the mouse cursor changes to an arrow. At that time, click on the icon of the 'Install Disc' and then click the '->' button - to proceed.

If you have another Mac near by, and both Macs have a FireWire connector, consider accessing the G3 via Target Mode.

'Is this the type of thing disk warrior would help on?' - possibly.

I'm thinking that you need to have 9.2.2 installed on there instead of 9.1. You should locate a 9.2.1 installer CD and install it on the G3, then while booted from 9.2.1 on the G3's hard drive, go to the Apple Menu > Control Panels > Software Update and install all updates offered which should include the 9.2.2 update and probably a firmware update.
