Syncing with 2 Macs-complete syncing possible?

Hi there!

You guys are my absolute heros, so here goes another 'dumb girl' question.

I want to sync everything across my Powerbook and my new Mini. I want to make changes to documents, and have them automatically synced. Additionally, when I try and sync, only my Powerbook is listed. So how do I setup Sync to automatically sync everything (or if this is even possible) and also, how do I force it recognize my Mini in addition to my Powerbook (or is this even necessary that they both show up in the Sync program)?

I appreciate any input someone has, I'm kinda drowning here trying to use all of the bada$$ Mac goodies!

Thanks!

Hmm... live syncing between machines. Well, the simple way around it is to have your mac mini access the files on your PB (or vice versa) via network connection and file sharing enabled.

Although I'm sure there's a very expensive solution to your problem, the best FREE way i can think of to keep two macs in sync entirely with each other is to use Carbon Copy Cloner to do a regular (nightly) backup of all updated files. (this is how i set up my dad's computer to handle backups when his drive went dead with no backup)

EDIT: Come to think of it, syncing ALL data from a PB to a mini could possibly cause problems with the system, since the OS is set to deal with two different hardware sets. Just a theory, I've never tried it...

with a firewire cable, set the Powerbook up as a Firewire Target disk. with the two mac linked with the cable, start the powerbook while holding 'T'. the powerbook will now act as a complete firewire external hard disk, and will function as if the the mac mini had two hard disks. now, work entirely off the powerbooks hard drive, you can sync them by wiping the powerbooks hard disk, and carbon copy cloning (see above) the mac mini's disk across to it. make sure you make the destination drive bootable. now, whenever you save a document, save it to the firewire target enabled powerbook.
