-"bing" at start up ... but no image on screen - just black
-turned off then on
-no bing, no screen, fans whirring
-started with pram reset holding apple option p r... only got 1 bing heard it was supposed to bing twice, so i did it again and got two bings
-continued to boot up, i was able to log in, but computer crashed right after.
-turned off then on
-got bing, got to gray screen with apple and ticking lines... then screen turned dark grey with dark gray square in center telling me to restart the computer
-restart got bing/image but crashed at login screen (maybe something to do with my apple bluetooth mouse/keyboard?)
-unplugged unnecessary usb devices (had been using microsoft mouse)
-startup, got gray screen with apple logo, no bing, after a minute the apple turned to a no/cancel sign, fans revving hard
-restarted, was able to log in and everything appeared normal
- ran disk utility verify permissions->repair permissions (a few java script ones) verify disk -> disk appears to be okay > repair disk
-restarted and was able to log in but after 2-4 minutes gray screen with "you need to restart your computer..." came up

I have run the apple hardware test (extended) everything came up okay

I reset the Pram by first holding apple+option+p+r and also by manually opening the machine and pushing the little circle in square button.

I took out the battery and tested it, i read in another article that it should be 3.3-3.7volts, it came up 3.53, so that checked out.

I cleaned the inside of the machine by lightly spraying with compressed air, got some dust out.

I had been using a USB microsoft mouse because my wireless mouse died too quickly. when i started it with that mouse plugged in, it seemed to always have issues with startup (as of late) had worked just fine before that.

The computer continues to be random as to what it will do at start-up. I have found that it works best with an apple keyboard plugged into the USB port on the front of the computer with nothing in cd drive, and i also use my wireless apple mouse.

Sometimes it will start up fine, sometimes it will give me only a black screen, and sometimes it will get to a gray screen and just not do anything else, then sometimes the gray apple turns to a gray cancel sign (circle with a slash through it).

I have gotten several kernel panic errors, I've been told some were related to the usb ports.

I miss my reliable G5... any thoughts on what the problem is? Let me know if you have any questions!!

Thank you very much
