Targus Mini Wireless Optical Mouse does not work on MacBook

I have a MacBook, equipped with Mac OS X 10.4.9 Tiger. I went over to Target and got a Targus brand Mini Wireless Optical Mouse, model PAWM004, which I can't find on the company support site.

I plugged the wireless reciever into my USB port, and instead of a mouse setup, I get a keyboard setup instead, asking me to press a key to the left of my shift key.

Well the thing is, is that I bought a $30 wireless optical mouse, not a unidentified keyboard. But because the MacBook thinks its a keyboard, it wouldn't stop prompting me for it, and I can't control my cursor using the wireless mouse.

Everybody was telling me that as long as a peripheral has a USB cord, then "it should" work with a Mac.

Update, now when I plug in my USB reciever, the "Unidentified Keyboard, press the key to the right of your left shift" prompt doesn't pop up, but neither can I use my mouse. I switched the mouse on, but the light on my reciever thats plugged into my USB port is not on.

My guess is that the wireless-adapter you put in the MacBook is simply not compatible and would need a driver of some sorts. I'd bring it back and buy a mouse supported by Macs. All Bluetooth mice should work out of the box.
