I just heard this elsewhere -- funny :D

Dear Tech Support,

Last year I upgraded from Girlfriend 7.0 to Wife 1.0 and noticed that the new program
began unexpected child processing that took up a lot of new space and valuable resources. No
mention of this phenomenon was included in the product brochure.

In addition, Wife 1.0 installs itself into all other programs and launches during system
initialization, where it monitors all other system activity. Applications such as:
Poker Night 10.3,
Drunken Boys Night 2.5 , and
Saturday Football 5.0
no longer run, crashing the system whenever selected.

I cannot seem to keep wife 1.0 in the background while attempting to run some of my other
favorite applications. I am thinking about going back to Girlfriend 7.0, but the uninstall
does not work on this program. Can you please help me !!!???

Thanks,
A TROUBLED USER

Dear TROUBLED USER,

This is a very common problem men complain about, but is mostly due to a primary
misconception. Many people upgrade from Girlfriend 7.0 to Wife 1.0 with the idea that
Wife 1.0 is merely a UTILITIES & ENTERTAINMENT program.

Wife 1.0 is an OPERATING SYSTEM and designed by it's creator to run everything. It is
unlikely you would be able to purge Wife 1.0 and still convert back to Girlfriend 7.0.
Hidden operating files within your system would cause Girlfriend 7.0 to emulate Wife 1.0
so nothing is gained. It is impossible to uninstall, delete, or purge the program files from
the system once installed.

You cannot go back to Girlfriend 7.0 because Wife 1.0 is not designed to do this. Some have
tried to install Girlfriend 8.0 or Wife 2.0 but end up with more problems than the original
system. Look in your manual under "Warnings - Alimony/Child support". I recommend you
keep Wife 1.0 and deal with the situation.

I suggest installing background application program C:\YES DEAR to alleviate software
augmentation. Having installed Wife1.0 myself, I might also suggest you read the entire
section regarding General Partnership Faults (GPFs). You must assume all responsibility
for faults and problems that might occur, regardless of their cause. The best course of
action will be to enter the command C:\APOLOGIZE. In any case avoid excessive use of C:\YES
DEAR because ultimately you may have to give the APOLOGIZE command before the
operating system will return to normal. The system will run smoothly as long as you take
the blame for all the GPFs.

Wife 1.0 is a great program, but very high maintenance. Consider buying additional
software to improve the performance of Wife 1.0. I recommend Flowers 3.1 and Diamonds
2K. Do not, under any circumstances install Secretary with Short Skirt 3.3. This is not a
supported application for Wife 1.0 and is likely to cause irreversible damage to the
operating system i.e. systems crash.

Best of Luck,
Tech Support

Funny, I don't seem to be having any problems with Wife 2.0. :D

C:\YesMyLove seem to work the best though. ;)

C:\ComingDear

I had girlfriend version 6.5 ...
well .. the software was good for a while but crashed several times, giving me the blue
screen of death. I reached tech support but they knew about the problem but had no
solution. Two years of runnin that OS software (oh yes...it was OS software) ... and after
tinkering with the source code I finally gave up ---

Tried girlfriend 7.0 from an other developer but she didn't work out --- compatibility
issues with drivers --- so she got uninstalled even though she wanted to somehow convert
the file extension from .gf (girlfriend) to .f (friend) ---

In the end, running my own system software is good...now to find some good software...
proprietary software is always bad cause no matter how much you try, you can never make
them your own...
Open source is also bad too due to the "openes" and "free to all" deal ---

so what to do ?
get a proprietary piece, make several alterations and call it your own :D

ROFL, that is the funniest thing I have ever read on these boards!!

BTW, its also a very bad idea to install Wife 1.0 and GirlFriend 7.0 at the same time.

I've never desired to do this, but people who have tried it say that it can create huge problems and can result in permanent system damage.

Also, the occasional use of the 'OtherGirl 2.0' boot disk isn't a good idea if you have already installed girlfriend 7.0 or have wife 2.0 installed. But its better than installing both at once.

The Dual-Boot configuration has been known to work on some systems using a two-partitioning scheme. However, should either discover the precence of the other, many damages will result.

The use of a Mother.sys and Lawyer.bin must be used at this point.

Its also a good idea to keep your system up to date and to avoid fragmentation. Supported system utilities include:
1) Shrink.bin: this program, while time consuming and expensive, has been known to fix many fragmented disks.
2) Naughty.store: This program provides a means of happiness to many installs-gone-wrong. Please note that this is not a permanent solution, and will only work successfully with c:\flowers and c:\yesdear

hehe I'm not getting married until I'm 30.

lol for me only 26+ :p

I tried the OtherGirl, versions 1.0,2.0 and 3.0 while using PartTime girlfriend 3.035 beta 6 once...it worked out pretty well...of course they were all installed on different continents (erm partitions) so it worked well...the null space between them helped avoid incompatibility clashes and proprietary suffixes to files. Of course this wasnt a permaent situation since all the programs sought to expand on tehir original programming and overtake the null space he he he ;)

well i have seen this post long ago. i am sure i have a copy in my mail archives. but this is the funniest expansion on it i have seen:p

personally i think i need to get some app similar to eddie's classic ? dockling. after being together for 9.5 yeaars but having never really done the legal thing for various reasons i never seem to know if GF 9.0 is running or wife 5.0 (we've lived together for that many years)
they definitly dual boot and which one is running which app is a constant source of bewilderment. i launch an app in gf but wife version runs. i run c:\yes dear in attempts to correct the problem. works sometimes and sometimes it crashes. big bomb alert shows on screen before it disappears. best to launch romantic.app first as this seems to enable and expand priviledges. wife 5.0 emulates gf9.0 almost every time this way. i have noticed that time of day affects run time of all apps and the drive is often sleeping after peak user hours. wake time varies depending upon last app launched.
other warnigs to accompany wife.app - runs misc. tasks in background constantly that pop into foreground with no warning. will suck up memory at most inconvient times and requires absolute attention until process is complete. there are more hidden files than previously documented. i find a new one regularly. i thought they were replicating themselves but all contain different names. while many system processes are compatible on a dual boot system, there are some you will never be able to access again. kiss many of your old apps goodbye and throw them away before one or the other system trashes them. at least this way you can say goodbye and know they are gone, saving you countless hours searching for them. two apps with different names complete the same task. gf 9.0 uses agreement.app while wife 5.0 uses sex.app. both allow the system to manipulate user's behaviour. ther ar tests that can be run on agreement.app to see if it is corrupted. there are no reccomended repairs for sex.app that will not iraversably damage your hardware. gf does a better job of emulating sex.app than wife does with agreement.app.
and while i have long since passed this point, i would advise all to beta test any version of gf before even considering paying the price. do not buy until all beta version have been exhausted. remember gf comes with various possible skinz but once you purchase wife, you will live with it forever.:D

So has anyone gotten a sad Wife face on rebooting after a crash? I have found that alternating Flowers and Chocolate utilities sometimes work as a quick fix, but sometimes you just need to run Expensive_Dinner.app or Jewelry.app to repair all the damage. :D

I've also noticed that the Wife OS is far more cryptic than any version of UNIX! Prompts like "I'm_fine" could mean everything is fine or the system is in desperate need of repairs!

Hmmm I once ran an OS called "serious_relationship 1.0" -- man are 1.0 released buggy or what. She was an expansion pack upon girlfriend 3.5 but asnwers were even more criptic that DOS since "abort, retry, fail" would not work. When I wanted to run programs like "go out with buddies.exe" or "see a female friend for coffee and good laughs.app" I would get this "abort, retry, fail" ---

retrying would yield the same "abort, retry, fail" options,
abort would do the same thing, and fail just crash the system, in which case I needed to run c:\massage or C:\caress and sweetalk to get my system back up and running.

I too would get the "everything is fine" when "go out with buddies.app" actually worked but I did not know if there was a serious problem to be fixed in the system.

I can say that serious_relationship 1.0 emulated in almost every aspect wife 1.0.

My hardware is too young to run wife 1.0 just yet :p
