I am extremely new at this unix stuff....in fact, i really know very little about it, but would like to learn alot more and now am somewhat being forced to learn. Well, in a matter of speaking anyway.
Here is my problem. I need to use a program that requires access to ports 32779-32783, and i have tried to create this port and open it through the sharing preferences with no luck at all. I recall that when i installed an ftp server program on an older version of X (different machine than the one now in question), a script came up that opened terminal and put some commands in automatically so that port 21 would be open. So i got thinking.....i wonder if i can login as a root user, and use terminal to open this range of ports......is that possible? If so what would the commands to make this happen?
Ant help is greatlt appreciated!!
