"Affordable, Reliable...did we mention Stylish?

That is what reads on Mistsubishi's Website....not only are they correct, they are missing out on being....well stylish.

A promising resolution to Mitsubishi: Make cars more appealing, and certainly this was not the honest case with the '04 Lancer RalliArt

Test driven with:

"162 hp, 2.4-liter MIVEC, 4-cylinder engine, 16-inch Euroflange alloy wheels, Ralliart sport-tuned suspension, a three-point strut tower brace, full Ralliart ground effects package with rear spoiler and more."

Interiour:

I will begin by in order to sell an appealable car, one must have an attractive interiour, and this just doesn't quite get it off the bat.

The shift knob looks like a tennisball, the feeling when you shift itself is not as smooth as a Civic or Corolla. Getting into third gear was finicky at first by my colleague. I find it odd that they do not avertise any real performance from this car other than the MPMIVEC engine.

The factory headunit just doesn't go well with the car at all! What is the point of having a black faceplate if you are trying to have a silver overlay on the vehicle...point taken..

Interiour score: 5.5 / 10

Exteriour

At least they did not ruin the rear tail lights the same way they did with the Outlander and Evolution 8, and the wrap around tail light housing does actually compliment the car, I do give it respect there. The spoiler is not bland nor too exciting, but the stlying is kept conservative.

however...these are available...

Mitsubishi's new front end scheme is definitely not the most aggressive looking, however the front air dams are kept at a reasonable size and do not distract you from the overall appearance of the vehicle, which may be a bad thing...

You look at this ....and then look at this...

And to even say that the Lancer RalliArt is its little brother would be saying too much, more or less an underdog who will be often ignored by other sport compact cars...

Exteriour score: 6.5 / 10

Performance:

If you want to buy a car that you want to have fun driving, you may find little cheer here. It sure has the power, it sure has the large space under the engine bay to sport the turbocharger it is begging for, but there is nothing that truly impresses me that I would pay over a Lancer OZ or ES, let alone purchase this over another car (Civic EX 5 speed or Mazda 3).

Shifting was not too daunting of a task, but with a very low redline of about 5.8k you don't really get to enjoy every shift you get...

Performance score: 6.5 / 10

Final Score: 6 / 10

Final comments: I think when it comes to sport compact car appeal....Mitsubishi is going to sit this one out..

sorry about what i said about the honda - this gets the ugly award. I honestly think the designer that though that making all the mitzis look the same up front should be shot. Its incedibly ugly. Especially the diamante (or should i say die-munted).

Yuk.
